Carlingford is a large, successful, comprehensive, coeducational high school located in the northern suburbs of Sydney.

Our mission is to develop considerate and responsible students who can learn independently to achieve personal excellence. Positions for enrolment at Carlingford are always in strong demand, with limited vacancies in Years 7 to 12.

The school prides itself on academic, vocational, cultural and sporting success and on providing a quality education. Carlingford has a highly experienced, competent and dedicated teaching team, who work hard to deliver the best possible learning outcomes for every student.

With a clear focus on quality teaching, Carlingford aims to meet the needs of 21st century learners in a technology rich environment. The school strongly supports gifted students through our Stage 4 extension classes. Extension courses are also available in Stage 6, providing broad curriculum choice and challenge for our talented students. Vocational courses are also offered in a range of areas, including Hospitality which is taught in industry-standard commercial kitchens.

A full range of Science courses are available and taught in modern, well equipped laboratories. The school has an extensive and highly regarded music program with stage and concert bands, vocal ensembles, string ensembles and annual music tours.

Other extra-curricula programs are available for students in debating, public speaking, dance and drama. Carlingford successfully participates in regular sporting competitions with other local high schools, in State knock out competitions, and in gala days, encompassing a wide range of sports.

There are high expectations for student learning, behaviour and school uniform. The school has a structured and supportive welfare system designed to ensure a safe, well disciplined learning environment where positive behaviour is expected, encouraged, supported and rewarded.

Our focus is on the promotion of an engaging and innovative learning environment where students want to learn and give their best. There are extensive services to support student learning, including a learning support team (with a specialist Learning and Support Teacher and Learning Support Officers), a Head Teacher Teaching and Learning and a school welfare team led by the Head Teacher Welfare.

Seventy six per cent of students are from a language background other than English, with Chinese and Korean being the predominant groups. Carlingford employs Community Liaison Officers for both the Chinese and Korean communities.

The school has strong links with local partner primary schools and tertiary institutions. Senior students are able to access courses at TAFE, which count towards their HSC.

The school aims to develop within each of its students the skills, knowledge, attitudes and values necessary to participate confidently and positively in society.
